Hello Debbie, and welcome to the forum.
First off, a little bit of oil in the turbo should not have yo worried. Oil mist from the crankcase breather condenses back to oil in the cooler temperatures found within the air intake, so it is perfectly normal to find a bit of oil there.
In indication of a problem is when there is when there is significant play in the turbine shaft of the the turbo, there is a readily apparent increase in engine oil consumption, and when that all is found in the turbo, pipes and intercooler.
That is normally an indication of the turbo's turbine seals having failed, allowing lubricating oil to leak past into the intake.
Just how much oil are we talking about here, and has he checked the intercooler as well?

Hi there,
Thanks for your reply.
My mechanic hasn't checked the inter-cooler yet, but he said there is a fair amount of oil in the oil breather pipe. I must say, we have not been losing much oil, as I check the oil level with every fuel fill.

Oil mist is drawn into the turbo via the crankcase venting system. A little oil in the turbo, intercooler and hoses is normal.
