Well on my way in to Aberdeen today, driving at 60 (as usual) all of a sudden the revs shot right up and I lost all drive, I knocked the box into neutral and coasted to a stop just off the main road, before I even got out I knew it was an ATF leak due to the smell. So after looking under the bonnet I discovered that one of the auto box oil cooler pipes had separated, at the point where the flexible section is swaged on to the rigid section!! Which i found very surprising.

Anyway, phoned the RAC for recovery, I also phoned the police to notify them that my vehicle had dumped all its ATF on the road. So while I wated for the truck I got on my phone and ordered the parts from island 4x4. So despite my misshap I was on the back of a flatbed recovery truck, knowing the problem, parts ordered, and on the way home passed the road cleaning guys putting sand down on the carriageway, all within an hour and 15 minutes. :)

I just hope the repair goes as smoothly.

Should be a piece of ****, not usually the sort of thing that gets corroded on.

The only minor issue might be getting the air out of the box. Probably a non issue though.

It's a strange one right enough, I have had a look at where the separated and their is no sign of corrosion! It's just the swage that's let go.

I am going to change the filter when it's empty anyway, I would not have thought that air would have been a problem due to the fact that the fluid is pumped in a loop back to a sump that is also vented, but it's something to keep an eye on thanks for the advice.:)

The swage joints fail its a common fault in the hydraulic world, as the rubber gets old it gives up and pops out under pressure, 9 times out of 10 you see it's wet around it before it gets close to failing
