Hi folks ,
New poster, and as of this Thursday owner of what I think :)doh:) are two series III 88'' Land Rovers.

You will no doubt be familiar with too many beers + eBay = Waking up with dreadful realisation of what you did the night before!

So I am now the proud owner of two (what I think are) series III Landy's.

First one is an 88'' hardtop / Van , second one is a pickup with no cab

The first one is apparently not a million miles from being roadworthy, although I doubt this to be true as they have sat on a drive for 6 years!

Second one is a basketcase.

I have put a couple of awful pics below that may give you a better idea.

Landy Hard top

Landy no top! (note the corrugated iron acting as a cab roof :D )

For these two fine specimens I paid £320 + £40 trailer hire to get them home.

I have committed to buying them regardless, even if I call the local scrap man to take them away. The owner tells me that they are both tax exempt, one is petrol and the other is diesel (he cant remember which is which) and both had recon engines months before being dumped on the drive.

I appreciate that large parts of both of these are likely to have been eaten by rust, but as I need to move them initially, is there anything that is likely to have seized to stop me winching them onto a trailer ?

Many thanks

Simon

I considered bidding on these, then realised had I won the Mrs. would have gone absolutely ape$hit:eek:

:welcome2: to LZ btw

bring a freshly charged battery, a couple of cans of fuel with you and you might just be able to drive them onto the trailer

where are they ?

Thanks Guys.

The Landy's are in Wrexham , North Wales. Good point re-fuel etc. I was going to winch them on to be honest, I was just a bit worried what may be seized, that would need freeing off before I could move them.

Dewin, are you based in North Wales then ?

Yes mate, a stones throw from Snowdon.

Lovely part of the country:)

I just found this Ad in the For Sale section.
Land Rovers For Sale - landrover series 3 1973 project - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds

From the look of that pic, there shouldn't be a roof on the second landy I bought as it should have the framework and then presumably some kind of tarpauline hood over it ? Must flap around like a sod when doing anything over walking speed.

Might just weld the sheet of currugated iron on instead :D

EDIT: Assuming there is something solid enough to weld it too ;)

Please ignore previous message re- tarpaulin roof

Can someone confirm that I just need to source a cab roof as on the blue one to enclose the brown one and that any series top should fit?

You can fit a truck cab, full tilt (tarpaulin 'roof'), another hard top, one with windows, whatever you like. They're all out there. That's the joy of Meccano......er, sorry, meant Land Rovers.

Tilt's are probably the most expensive option oddly, to get a good 'un at least.

I'd get the rusty ****ers home first and decide whether you bother or just flog 'em, weigh them in, give up drinking or ebay or both or all or neither or nothing. ;)

That's just it. I don't care if they both do turn out to be utter scrap, I'l still buy another that is salvageable even if these two are not. Having fooked up in the first place I've decided I'm going to be the owner of a road worthy tax exempt 88'' whatever happens.

Oh, BTW, change your forum name as you obviously don't

No ****. But then the name was lifted from a TV rental company I got my first TV from 15 years ago and as with most forum names it has no relevance to it's owner.

I'm not sure I've ever been that ****ed!

Then try harder! ;)

ahhh but under that dull lifeless exterior we all know there is a beautiful S3 just waiting to get out:D:D:D of course finding it under the rust is never easy or cheap lol, welcome to the wonderful world of old landys, may your knuckles be hard and your pockets deep :p

Watch her, she only starts with your knuckles.

Cheers :D

I', reasonably OK with the mechanicals, it's the welding that will be an uphill struggle, although someone mentioned that a local farmer round these parts is bloody handy with a welder and is cheap. Time to make a new friend me thinks

go for it, hope it all works out for you. take piccky on the way and keep us posted..

Cheers J. Although with these two there is a good chance they will be going straight onto fleabay, but we'll see ;)

shhhhhh you not supposed to tell 'em yet

Don't worry, I'm used to working on pain in the arse cars. My current car is a Fiat! I have had a '94 M Disco before that I bitterly regret selling
