Not always but sometimes they can misfire on startup with a bit of smoke. Often there are no symptoms other than the oil level raising.

Can't believe three were no obvious symptoms of having that much oil in it...

New filter in and about 6 litres have got it to the right mark on the dipstick

Are you sure? It's 6.8 Litres to full with a new filter.

6.8 litres is from dry

Don't think you would get every bit of oil out just by removing sump plug.

7.3 litres from dry Chris.

6.8 litres takes me to the top mark on my dipstick for each oil change I've done.

I stand corrected....... You are of course correct......

I haven't started it up yet...... So may be able to get a bit more in once the filter has filled up etc
