Thought about time I waxed the old girl as not done for a few years now, what a sorry mess, tank guard totally rotted off, only 18 years old as well!

Think to myself I can weld this no issues, turns out it is proper shagged, and thought to myself it is Sunday, I am grovelling around in crap to save 200 quid, so new one to be ordered Monday.
Turns out a 400a welder turned down to baby setting with 1.2mm wire is pretty much a non starter.

Hats off to u mate for such an awesome job , does seem rust issues are becoming more apparent as they age

Don’t forget watch out for those pesky sills for rust 🤣

Chain and wire grease aerosol sprayed on the inside a few years back seems to have kept the worst of it at bay, very bottom lips are a bit crusty, but only surface rust that I can see, and I aint going digging!

Tetroseal from fleabay, on offer 25 quid for a 5 litre tin, only two tins left so I bought them.
I did mix some hydraulic oil in with the wax (about 5 to 10 percent) as I wanted more creep.

Not aerosol but a sealey wax gun, years old, still sell them.
Weirdly price is pretty much what I paid for mine a decade ago!

To be fair I only used 5 litres, and I gave most bits at least two coats, so depending on what an aerosol costs it might not be as expensive as you think.

True, I'll see if it can be bought in a can.
I bought some underbody stuff a while back, but it didn't spray so much as squirt and splatter back! I ended up brushing it afterwards to even it up.

That will be underseal, you don't want that as it hardens, then water gets behind it.

I think you can get hand applicators for chassis wax, they work okay so long as the wax is warm, ie nice and thin.

It can be a bit fiddly finding holes to poke the applicator down and into the chassis, You might have to drill one or two, and I have found that the applicator that comes with it often doesn't work very well, so you have to make your own end to the pipe with a bit of nail and by poking more holes in the end of it with a needle or a pin. Test it good and propa before using.
Bucket of hot water keeps it thin and when I used old skool waxoyl I used to thin it with white spirit (I think) but don't know if that would be the right thinner now!

Loads of factory holes on the D3, of course older ones have even more!

Wouldn't know!
I had to cross my fingers with the holes I found on the rear chassis of my D2 as I didn't drill holes. Many of the original ones had gone when I had it plated.

Course there is the school of thought where you spread a tarp, thin it to heck, drill holes and plug em then fill up the chassis with the stuff until it starts to come out of the filling holes.

Then unplug and catch the excess.
Could still have trapped air pockets unless you are very careful where you drill the holes.
Very old skool nowadays I expect.
