Pulled engine to do clutch/flywheel/engine mounts, and thought might as well do cambelt whilst in there.
Clutch plate was glazed, this was most likely my slow speed judders, flywheel had several hairline cracks, and cambelt was walking its way off of the pulleys, nearside engine mount fell apart, various coolant hoses starting to split, pas hose perishing, on the plus side bits are peanuts!

well caught. on the timing belt, is there a way to inspect it without taking the whole cover off, as id like to check mine. Thanks :)

Not really, but if you insert a small screwdriver into the bottom breather/drain hole you see if any rubber dust comes out.
 
The propshaft looks good though
Has the belt been on a long time

Prop is a few years old now, maybe 5 to 6 yrs old, but car has only done 1k in the last 5 years.
I last did cambelt June 2013, approx 5 k miles ago, have no idea why its moved/worn.
Poor car sadly lives outside, and its starting to show!

Engien back in utter tawt of a job, as engine crane not man enough for the job, I was trying to operate it/counterbalance it and line up the studs/splines!
So 1 ton crane forget it, buy the 2 ton version all day long.
 
Hope you still got all your fingers , I gave up and bought one of them levellers from machine mart , well worth it , took 30mins

I have the leveller, that wasnt the issue, the boom was out past the last hole, so was trying to nosedive the entire time, sump has a nice dent in it now, adds character dont you know:D
I did remove two of the studs and used two 6 inch pieces of M10 studding to give me a chance as I knew it was going to be a toss job.

If I do it again, I am going to buy the bigger crane, 270quid machine mart, same thing in grey off of ebay 180 quid!
 
I got my Clarke 1 tonne strong arm 2nd hand it came with these bits
The square tube fits inside nicely and can attaché the hook
It’s 50mm x50mm x 5mm bit cheaper than new crane and handled the 200di I put in
So gave a bit extra reach
I didn’t know about the extended studding tip when I did mine , wish I had though

The problem on the 200 defender is the engine is set way back, there is almost a foot between front of engine and the rad.
On my series the water pump threaded bit for the fan has been cut off for clearance.
Stud trick is an old one told to me years ago at work, strangely I never use it at work, and if fact have never used it before today!
