Oh blooming heck. Now I want to fit Megajolt. Or Megasquirt??

Yeah there's 30 odd pages I think but its a VERY good read for anyone considering it.

The difference is INCREDIBLE!

No lie, it's absolutely awesome and worth every single penny!

Power HUGE

Torque HUGE

Driveability INSANE!

So so smooth, drives like a modern car, no jerky, no hesitation, precise throttle control, accurate stabs of power when required, perfect start every time, smooth idle like a new car, dependable power up to 6-6.5k easy!

Absolutely love the engine now whereas before it was a bit of a chore living with a v8.

Which is a handy link to mpg:

Not really sure. Engine is more efficient now FACT so it will use the fuel better. For instance I can now keep up with diesels easily when we go out laning, driving around country roads etc the only way I could keep up with them at 35mph was by being in second gear nailing it, now I cruise around in 4th no trouble, motorways are a breeze now too.

However I do also drive the engine a LOT harder than I used to because I can so I do find myself smoking 150 quid in a day or two just by using the loud pedal too much!

Sounds really good. I must say I find day to day the throttle response is a bit slow and at certain speed and load conditions the throttle doesn't seem to do anything until you really press it but I suppose going from bank firing to properly sequential injection has to be a step forward.

How did you find setting up the mapping and was it hard to learn what ignition timing and injection pulse worked best?

Stop press! MS1 which most people run is still firing banked injection!

However I now have learnt that banked injection is really no serious problem on a RV8.

Yes I remember that trouble we, where there was no power and minimal anything unless you really screw it with the foot down. Couldn't be further away from that now!

Nige at Megasquirt-v8 supplied me with a map that has a sensible ignition table and safe fuel map, and I can then tune from there.

I was advised that the igntion timing was best left alone, it takes a lot of work to require the ignition table to need to be changed and its very easy to damage the engine by getting igntion wrong, so I have never altered it.

The same applies for the pulse width as such, the base map is set up already and you can just tune from there.

There is a facility in the tuning software to help you get any engine running on MS by inputting all the parameters and it works out approximately enough 'required fuel' to get the engine just about running.

I of course didn't have to do any of that :)

Yeah cos its absolutely incredible now, so so much better!

Well worth the money, the bank firing thing is really not as much of a problem as i thought, because even at low engine speeds to be honest it is injecting really rather quickly anyway!

It's all in the name of simplicity I suppose, but the RV8 runs so rich anyway and particularly at idle I honestly don't think I would see any real difference on sequential.

Ok I would then have the option of individual cylinder tuning, but again, not such a simple process.

Top and bottom now is that it drives awesome and is waterproof, job done :)

Also what do you mean same timing?

I now run 12 ish degrees btdc at idle, up to like 45 degrees on overrun and mid to late twenties at WOT.

Much better than a dizzy could give, and all slap bang on accurate.

As a novice I would recommend only Megasquirt because there is a huge amount of help available almost 24 hours a day on LR4x4, whereas fit a more is its system and you're kind of on your own.

If you know what you're doing then sweet :)

were fooked then :p

I got the heads off the beast today, them bores is massive :D

how your getting on with those step dodger rings? I dont really have a step or anything but I am wondering how big they must have been on your to need those rings , did he go plus 20 below the step lol

No idea about the rings fett, but it runs :)

In all fairness I haven't/cba doing a comp check, maybe I should :D

Just assumed from the fact that it was better than before that it was alright!

I assume they are standard size rings, pretty normal procedure to fit new rings to an engine 2 or 3 times before it needed a rebore says my old man, I'm happy with the old skool approach because it is realistic and cheap!

I got a pic of my rim dodgers.. just put em on this weekend.
Ill post it up tonight.

remind what size engine you are doing mate, I am doing a 4.4 but it has the same diameter bores as a 3.5 so I am going to need a new set of rings.

so when you stay that, is it all real steel offer for the rv8 now? or did they advise you to fit them on non re-bored engine? is that little chamfer all that "dodges" the step?

Last question, if you are doing a 3.5 what cam you using and where from. thanks mate

myn is the 3.5, no they advise to get the dodgers if you dont re hone/bore, but the sell the standard ones too.
They are very knowledgeable and willing to help. And yes your right, its just a lil bit taken off the top edge of the ring.
