hi, me again

once i get my landy sorted out i was thinking about doing a off road course ovre the summer. ive been looking at the BORDA training course, but theres not a lot of info on there about it. whats the general thinking on these training courses? are they worth it? if so whats the best one (preferably in the somerset/devon area)?

I've yet to do any so called training just learned the hard way (more fun!) But I'm lead to believe that "David Bowyers Off Road Centre" is the daddy.

http://www.davidbowyer.com/ is the website. Click on courses for more info.

Or have a look at Land Rover Experience in Devon. A mate of mine went there and said it was ok. http://www.lre9.com/

Why not join a local off-road club? Could be more fun.

Courses are good, but thing is they are on the whole a designed course, in the real world you are driving over unknown terrain, also, on a course you know that your ment to be driving into what ever the guy tells you, so it gives you increased confidence when your out on your own, which can lead to you getting into tricky situations more often.

A days training is a fantastic investment - I thought I knew plenty before - but to learn and practise with an instructor advanced my driving massively - and it great fun too! The course is set out but that doesn't make a difference one way or the other to reading the ground, gear selection, momentum, throttle etc etc etc.

Where are you? - no profile info:(

Hi Olly! I've done the BORDA level 1 course with 4 Play 4x4 near Bristol. It depends on what you are after. If you have been off roading for some time you may be going over stuff that you have already learnt the hard way. However, you can learn alot about saftey and your vehicle. Simon Mull-Holland runs the courses and is a really nice guy. The number is in the yellow pages.

This month's Land Rover Enthusiast mag has a free DVD of Off Road Driving and Winching Techniques. The off-road bit is a bit old (but still useful) but the winching section is more up to date. At £3.60 for the mag and DVD it's worth it as a starter. And NO, I'm not on commission!!:D

We did a day's training at Trax and Trails in Cornwall on holiday last year. They were really great and we enjoyed it so much that 2 months later we bought our first landrover!
