Hello to you all ....:)

If this post has been up before or in the wrong place ... sorry up front feel free to remove admin ;)

i've had a chat with people over the years about buying parts from LAND ROVER MAIN DEALERS and expecting LAND ROVER to be stamped on the part only to find the Genuine supplier trade name Example .... WABCO in the box, so LAND ROVER clearly re-boxing and marking up the price .... now my thought was if the good people of the forum got together and created a section were they know of parts that have clearly just been re-boxed we could list that part .... supplier, part number and price , that way we get the pleasure of the genuine part only cheaper ... any thoughts on this are welcome ....:)

land rover or any car firm dont make their parts so they are all reboxed, put g at the end of the number gets you oe

Thanks James handy to know .... i've been told some BRIT PARTS are marked as genuine LR parts but they seem poor quality or is it just me :(
they do sell cheap pattern as well as parts from lr ,or oe or oem or branded, when a part becomes non current as most on my 03 disco some can come from original factory but mostly others are resourced so genuine quality can vary, but if you get g they are generally fairly good, its only he cheap pattern that are a issue but thats the same with all parts

Wabco, Dayco, Gates Rubber, they all supply manufacturers with parts.

I tend to buy OEM where possible as they are original fitment and cheaper than genuine.

Dayco belt tensioners for example are circa £30 - £40 OEM against nearly double that for genuine LR.

Dayco and Gates probably supply 80% of the market for ribbed belts and pulleys.

Try wheel bearings : 20 quid Timken bearing, quoted 105 by LR dealer.

Those lovely people at the European Commission made rules that require vehicle manufacturers (if asked) to leave the component supplier's brand on the part in the box - of course that could all change over the next 2 years or so........(I doubt it....).

So we can see who made the part - can't imagine many of us expect the manufacturer to make very single widget that goes into the build of the vehicle?? And buying it from the component supplier probably cuts out lots of storage, handling and margin, so might end up cheaper.

Non-OE equipment suppliers tend to rashly declare their's is as good as the OE/Genuine part - I'd be very wary unless it was a world recognised brand (such as the Timken bearings example). Britpart sell an awful lot of 'replacement for...' parts alongside some genuine LR parts - keep an eye out for which you are buying and whether they fall into the category of 'safe bets' from Britpart, or 'good luck with that one' parts from Britpart....... Cheers, A
