Odd Hevac issue

Morning all, could someone please advise? (P38 2.5 DSE 2000) From time to time, usually when the weather is very cold, I get the Book Symbol when first starting the car. The symbol remains and the blowers will only blow hot. However, if after a few mins I turn the car off then on again, the book disappears and I can select hot or AC or any combination of setting. It will now work fine again until the next cold spell and the problem reappears. Is this the start of a full failure or is there another explanation? Many thanks, Charles.

Sticky blend motors....Could be when the temp is cold, the grease/lube inside is more viscous and prevent movement, the system then faults out thinking the motors won't move.

As the car warms up the lube becomes less viscous and then allows the motors to move again, the system then resets itself.

Thanks, that makes perfect sense. I surpose that means the dash out and replace or live with it?

Mine sometimes jams. Done it ever since I got it. If you periodically move temperature between hot as it can go and then a minute later as cold as it can go and then back to whatever your normal setting on auto is then it seems to keep it clear. Or it does mine.

There are shortcut methods to replacement if you are handy with a dremmel (or similar) and as bendy as a Russian gymnast.
