OBD11 - ELM327 ver 1.2a

Hi All,

OBD11 - ELM327 ver 1.2a

These are advertised on the net fairly scheaply , one supplier quoted Range Rover 1996.
It seems that you can obtain software to read engine diagnostics etc. with this gadget.
Is it true and has anyone got one of these test lead and interface sets?

Pretty certain this was not supported on the P38, certainly not on the pre-1999 ones. The later one's with the Bosch Motronic ECU _may_ support full generic CAN OBD-II but I really doubt it !

yes they do connect but you cant do a lot with them, although you can clear and read fault codes on the engine management and depending on what arfter market software you use you can look at diffrent sensors ie lambada sensors to see if your running lean or rich and some other settings but they are no where near as good as having one of the black box sollutions bit of kit which does everything but at a cost.

It also works on my 1998 EU spec Lucas P38, but as wangie mentiones, you do not get anything near the functions of a Faultmate or Rovacom.

The ODBC was forced onto the car manufacturers to enable independent garages and goverment test agencies to do their work with standard equipement. Typically you will be able to read data from sensors that are critical for emission control, safety (brakes) and engine management in general. More specialized features like the EAS is not implemented in the ODBC, at least not on the P38.

So is there a cable available for this? It would be fantastic if I could just plug it all into my laptop and use it like EASUnlock! Even if its got limited functionality, its better than nowt!

if you search for elm 327 on the net you should find the lead, basicly its the same as the eas lead that connects to the obd11 port but has a small box which the chip is in then a lead from there that goes to the usb port, you will probrably get some bundelled free software with it but you can search the net for 3 rd party software which you can download as a demo and if you like it and it works for you then you can buy the software, i found pcm scan quite good not sure now of the link but its from the states just do a search, hope this helps

The EASUnlock application will not work with this ELM based interface!

The EAS system is on other connectors in the OBD connector, so you will need one dedicated cable to access it. That cable is linear as you can see at the EAS Unlock - Cable menu option. I made one myself and it worked.
