Hi again all another quick question, will my 52 plate freelander have an obd 2 port? If so where. My hill descent control Amber light is on and it won't engage, not that I will probably ever use it but the light is annoying and want to solve the issue. Cheers again.

You'll need a multi-system FCR for that fault, as it's not part of the OBD2 protocol. A 2002 TD4 isn't OBD2 compliant anyway, so you can only access the EDC codes with a suitable FCR.

If it's a K series petrol, then it is OBD2 compliant, but it might not help with that light, unless the throttle potentiometer has failed.

My dog, on a couple of occasions, has jumped into the front of the car(whilst parked) & when I've got back in & switch the ign. on the same thing happens. I have to press the HDC button several times in quick succession with the ign. off then it clears (one press never clears it, weird). I know my HDC works as I used it a couple of weeks ago. Could be worth a try.
 
Our dogs have a habit of locking themselves in and us out, of our Disco 1s. Have to be quick with the fob to get the door unlocked and open!
 
Thanks guys. Mines a k series petrol so will try my reader. Have removed the gearshift gaiter and The hdc connection looks OK.

It won't be the gear lever switch, as the ABS module wouldn't know if the switch was connected or not, as a broken wire is the same as the switch being set to off.
The warning light is showing a fault, which needs a suitable diagnostic reader to integrate the ABS module to find the cause.

I thought there was a separate switch or sensor or summat fitted near the brake pedal that could become slightly out of adjustment. Maybe I imagined it but I thought I read about it on here somewhere. This seemed to be confirmed by the light going out after a quick jab of the brake pedal.

I may be being stupid here (happens often) but isn't the HDC light on a petrol Freelander effected by the tension of the throttle cable?
I vaguely remember finding the throttle cable was a bit slack at the throttle body so I adjusted it and afterwards the HDC light came on a second or so after driving off. Slacking it off again fixed the issue.
Sounds weird but true. :confused:

That's the TC light Ali. If the throttle potentiometer isn't calibrated then with the pedal switch, the ABS module can't work out how to operate the TC accurately, so it tell the Ipack to illuminate the TC light. ;)

LOL, I knew there was something not quite right with what I was saying. :oops:
Now I think about it the HDC light was on another car and was fixed with magic light fixing tape in the dash. :eek:
I pulled the dash out, took it apart and covered the LED with black insulating tape. It was impossible to see, even if you looked for it. :p
 
After many hours looking for the fault I couldn't be bothered messing about any further. Now I know the light is activated by a CAN signal.

The cause can be discovered is a few seconds with a suitable diagnostic reader.

Thankfully the ABS system is pretty reliable, so these faults don't come up often.

Interestingly when my FL1 SE gearbox messes about, I get the HDC and TC lights come up along with F4, so presumably something on the CAN, upsets the ABS module too.
