As I’m progressing with the full rebuild of my D90 I’ve been meandering through fleabay looking for various parts and found an item of fixings for the Defender, item number 253194271470. It lists various nuts , bolts etc for the defender rebuild.

It would be useful to have a complete kit as I go through the rebuild has anyone got a list of the bolts and quantities used or indeed, used this kit or any other?

Be wary of buying from suppliers like that. They are advertising it as stainless steel, but with no grade mentioned. This usually means they are A2, and rated less than 8.8 grade standard mild steel bolts. If you want stainless steel, go to YRM and buy their full 90/110 chassis mounting kit. It’s all A4, which is equivalent to 8.8 grade. They also stock individual sizes, so you can make up your own “sets” for anything they don’t stock.

Good point, I use YRM for my panels etc, I just wondered if there were quality kits about.

Yeah the YRM kits are good gear. The vehicle we are building is being built with all SS fasteners. We have made a few new kits for them to add to the website too.

A4 is the dogs danglies.
With any stainless fastener always grease the threads on assembly.

This is vital. I won’t go into the how’s and why’s, but I ended up having to shear one of the A frame to chassis bolts due to galling! I used a product called Belzona 8291.....I think. You can get an assembly paste that is relatively cheap.

Im to tight to buy the proper gear, so just use whatever grease is in the pot.
But have recently splashed out and now use some sort of alloy anti seize paste rather than copaslip.

Once in a hurry used my battery gun to wazz a few M8 stainless bolts/nuts up, wont be doing that again as they seized solid halfway along the threads, so my tiem saving idea cost me time!
