I currently have metal number plates, white and yellow. They are quite faded and probably won't pass an MOT.

Will some pressed plates in the correct format pass an MOT quite happily rather than cheap boring plastic ones?
 
Should do. If you want new ones I think there is a company called Framptons which do oriinal spec ones. Am after some myself for mine
 
I used Framptons for my metal plates with riveted 3d letters. Mines a series 3 1981 so not sure what they would have originally been in that era.
Not cheap but a nice touch to help keep that period appearance

My rear plate (1976) is an original I think and its made in that way with rivetted letters :)
 
I always thought that the pressed ones were standard and the riveted on letters and numbers were a posh alternative:)
 
Not sure on the rules for the older vehicles, but don't vehicle registrations have to have a postcode of some sort on the bottom?
 
they look like the ones i bought from ebay, mine are pressed but also reflective, they look very smart
