Hi,

I have a 2005 Freelander 1 and I've had no real problems with it until today - I went to the car (not driven it in about a week) and pressed the key fob and nothing happened. I went round and unlocked it with the key, put the key in the ignition and turned it to the 2nd position which is normally where all the lights come on but all that came on was the odometer. I tried turning the key as if to start the engine anyway and all that came on at that point was the SRS light.

I don't know if I just have a flat battery (don't know what would have caused it but can investigate that later)? Or the other thing I wondered about was I read in the manual that the key fob is programmed to the car so if the key fob battery has gone flat is there a chance that's the problem? Or something else that I have no idea about...:confused2:

Hopefully someone a bit more knowledgeable than me can suggest something!

Thanks

Jen

I believe SRS light could be any number of things from a loose connection in the seat belt pre-tensioner to a knackered ECU.

A :search: for SRS light will throw up loads of electrical connections you can check yourself, before forking out to hook it up to any diagnostic machine, though that may prove quicker, depends whether time or money is an issue.....

As for the non starting, check the condition of the battery. You may find it's died due to a drain somewhere, resolving that may resolve the SRS light issue

Failing that matches and a couple of litres of petrol ;) :D

Good luck :)

:welcome2:

Thanks for the quick reply!

I have been trawling a couple of other posts and although I haven't found the same problem, I did find some tips. I'm now in the position where, if I superlock the car with the key and then unlock it, I can turn the key to position 2 and most of the starting lights come on. It still doesn't start but as a new thing, my engine coolant light comes on which, according to my handbook, seems to mean it's 120 degrees. I know it's hot but this seems unlikely...

Last time this happened to m e, I had a bloke knock on my door and asked me if I knew the rear passenger courtesy light was on
