Hi I've got a series 2a. It's had an intermittent starting fault which turned out to be a poor connection to the starter motor (live). I've tightened the connection via the two nuts but now it's not staring at all!
The solenoid is clicking over nicely but noting from the starter motor. There is evidence of some minor arcing on the terminal. Tried new battery, rechecked connections etc. All other electrical systems work. I'm now lost for ideas, I don't think it's the starter as it didn't have any problems if I held the cable against the terminal.
Any suggestions most welcome.

Is it a separate solenoid? If so, try shorting out the terminals with something chunky and sacrificial. If the motor turns you need a new solenoid. Just because it goes "clunk" doesn't mean it's making contact inside....

Just tried shorting the solenoid no joy. The stud sounds a likely problem. The nuts were very tight and took a lot to turn. Is there a solution or is it a new starter motor!!
If it's a new starter any ideas on sourcing one?

Cheers guys.

Did you say the starter turns if you connect the terminal on the motor directly to the battery? And is it a separate solenoid or a pre-engage one?

It did start when I held the connection against the terminal. It doesn't now, which makes me think it the stud has turned as suggested earlier.

Starter motor out then. Never done it but the starters look fairly dismantlable and repairable.
