The other alternative is to bind the current owner and the vehicle over with a 'duty of care' form. It means that you can't sell the vehicle but you can use it but you are bound to keep it in good condition until the case is resolved. I opted to do this to my series when it got nicked. It saves getting lumbered with the recovery and storage charges. Unfortunately I still didn't get the bastid thing back even though it was nicked and the guy that nicked it admitted doing it. CPS said there was insufficient evidence to prosecute.
