I changed the oil last night and it does seem quieter, I'll still see if I can find an acoustic cover though.

What **** thought to put the roll bar in the way of the draining oil? What a bleeding mess, some of the oil nearly went in the bowl! Getting the filter off was nice and easy but it's taking a while for all the bits of oil saved up on the diff to drain, I had a right fright when I went to pick up our lass, I thought the oil slick under the front was a leak.

The acoustic cover shouldn't catch fire, as theyre made from fire retardant rubber. I've got a fairly noisy lump under the hood, but fitting a second hand cover didn't really improve things. Gonna try the tappets and an oil change and see if that helps.

What would cause low oil pressure though, cos everything seems to be fine on my 300tdi disco, but there may be something there that I'm missing

There was a mod posted up somewhere about making a valve and hose connector for draining oil around the rollbar....somewhere........tis a sound idea and would encourage me to change oil more frequently, for sure

Update: Done the rockers they was very slightly out so not made much difference to the noise of the motor??
Oil to be sorted next.

Crofty

A friend of mine complained about the sound of his Disco compared with mine, Changed the oil for him (it was like tar god knows how long it had been in the sump for) dropped old, flushed sump and filled her up with 5w/40 fully syn *. Fired her up and he was smiling, quite a dramatic improvment to say the least.
* This grade might be a tad thin because of where you are from (Gibraltar) dont know what the ambient temp is over there.

Try some 10w/40 or even Some SUTO 10w/30 tractor oil.

Let us know when youve changed the oil ;)
