Dear all...

2004 TD4 91,000 FSH one owner blah blah blah, tried, buyed, low drone when bought, nothing i can't fix....if I could locate!!

Full oil/filter change
Not the VCU/props - removed noise still there!
Not the wheel bearings - changed em at weekend, noise still there!
Near side brake disc a little under used on inside face? possible??
Noise picks up at @ 30mph and does not intensify with speed.
Gearbox not clunky.
A little 'gritty' on full left-hand-down, goes when straight.

Naffing me off now!
Polite advice greatly sought, don't wan't time wasted on futile searching
Many thanks:confused:

If they are the AT's, could well be the problem - but guess you already know this! They are more noisy than road biased boots, of course. Difficult to test unless you know another FL with road tyres.

Newbie here, another vote for checking tyres. My father bought a Jag 2 years ago, was getting a odd noise from rear which came in around 30mph and went about 40mph. Turned out wrong tyres fitted and seems at that speed they rubbed somewhere on wheel arch, altough I guess rubbing on a Freelander is unlikely unless tyres are really wrong size.

Tyres. I had the same problem after putting two Uniroyals on the back of my freelander. Couldn't stand the noise anymore so changed all four for Pirelli scorpion STR's noise now gone.

Yokohama Geolander A/t's are on the motor...

Increased noise is a well documented downside of AT's. Maybe best turn up the radio and get used to it. I use mine on road 99.9% of time, so have road biased 235's. Dunlop Winters on front, Bridgestone Duellers rear and normal tyre noise levels.

If I had hair .......if only...........

On a more serious note, not checked yet, but has there been an investigation/forum notes on the the quietest tyre combo for the wusslander?

P.s. Did all four wheel bearings last weekend....what di*k at Haynes Manuals came up with phrases like....carefully remove the race from the hub!... using an assistant:confused: !! blah blah blah

yeh must agree with tyres does the droning noise fade in and out.last year had this with mine after buying set of alloys off fleebay found out that rear tyre treds were about 2mm dia difference so at around 50mph the droneing started ,changed tyres (continental premium contact 2)and no more noise:D

Any decent road tyre will give minimum noise - its a compromise based on how you most use the car - I suspect most spend their life on the tarmac. Folks on here have two sets of wheels and tyres, cant be doing with that myself.

Possibly another one for driveshaft bearings? Is it a metallic drone? Is it there, with engine off, free wheeling down a hill for instance.
