Anyone know what the noise is which seems to be coming from the drivers side of my engine? I have a 2004 Freelander sport TD4 with 67000 miles on the clock. The noise only seems to appear when i take my foot off the accelerator and the car is slowing and i get a kind of brrrrrrrr noise which goes away if i accelerate again. I can not seem to duplicate the noise when stood still and listening to the engine so really stuck to what it can be?? Any help would be really appreciated??

Further investigations today has pinpointed the noise! I can only hear it when the A/C is on or i have the heater setting to windscreen? Also the car has to be moving as i can not replicate the noise with the car stood still and the A/C on?? Hope this helps someone to give me a good clue to the fault??

sounds very like the plastic side shield in the wheel arch not fitted properly which rubs on the pulley of the aircon compressor. look down inside the engine bay and you should see. takes seconds to fix.

when you are accelerating, the engine rocks on its mounts slighty and stops the rubbing.

Optimus Prime you are a legend i removed the sump guard a few weeks ago ....and yes refitted with the plastic side guards on the inside of the the guard causing it to rub!!
TOP BOMBER!
