no spark for me

Hi. V8 decided to cut out. I have replaced the coil. But still have no spark.

Should I be able to turn the whole distribor left and right about an inch. ?

unless it has points the ignition amplifiers are common failure.

Depending on the age and vehicle
Most had a black transistorized ignition module attached to distributor.
Later classics a dummy connector was placed on distributor and the amplifier was mounted remotely on aluminum plate.

Lastly there were some lucas models with the amplifier next to coil bolted on same plate eg land rover 90 v8

Yes I do have the module next to the distributor. I will try and find a replacement, hopfully will fix the problem.

the landy is about 3 miles from my house atm.

when you say the dizzy moves it that the whole body or the rotor arm and have you undone the clamp or thats how you found it

ive never played with a v8 but id expect the dizzy body to be rock solid...they get dizzy if they rotate ....spark timing has to be spot on for it to run proper.

Either spot on or near enough will do to get it started. Once it's fired up it can then be adjusted for optimum sparking position.

However, even if it's way, way out there should still be a spark in the wrong place!

Possibly, as said previously, if there ain't a spark at all, it probably isn't your dizzy body that's at fault, it's the lectrickery bit.

I have a new ignition module but the connection is different?

Its looks difficult to change?

Have you still got the dizzy clamp, and can it be nipped up?

Turn your crank round to TDC on No 1 cylinder, which you can by taking one of your plugs out and inserting a small screwdriver watching until it stops coming up.

Then lift the dizzy cap and see if the rotor points to where the No 1 plug lead is. Then nip up the clamp.

Then we can take things from there.
