No power to LH tail lamp

Bugger, seem to have lost power to the near side rear light (red and black). Break light is fine (purple and green).

Only found out when testing the trailer socket, which has lost power to the associated 7 pin (Black) (factory wired, just a new socket by me a while ago (pre-last MOT!).

Can't figure it out. Bulb is fine, fuse is fine, can't see any obvious brake in the cable.

Need to check main earth, when I can find it, but this must be ok as everything else is functioning fine.

Any clue tips gratefully received as to why just this one wire should drop out.

OK so you have no n/s side light but you have a brake light. Does the sidelight work on your trailer bar/socket?

On my 110 Fender the wires come along the top of the chassis and there are two joints in the lighting cable, one in the engine bay and the other by the fuel tank sender unit.

I had to relace the one by the sender as it had decided to come electrically adrift in the bullet connector.

Hi Oldseadog

No trailer socket LH tail light is dead too. I guess this is because its fed from the rear tail light, which is obviously dead.

My wiring loom is original, so runs inside the chassis.

I'm guessing there must be a break in the wire but god knows where. I would like try and fix it properly, before I end up having to splice into the right hand side and running both of this.

Had a similar problem with my 300 CSW and it ended up being a poor connection where the trailer loom connects to the main vehicle loom. If you open the rear door you will see a 'triangular' panel by the rear right seat which is held in by a screw and a nut (the rear door wiring also goes through a grommet in this panel) if you remove the panel you will see that the main loom enters from under the tub, there are a series of bullet connectors and sockets which is where the trailer wiring and rear lights all join up. I had a couple of poor joints which just needed a quick clean up and then reconnect. To gain access to the panel I found it easier to remove the rear right seat base (4 x 11mm bolts) to get to the panel securing nut. The screw head for this nut is actually on the outside of the tub next to the brake light.

I've got that corner apart already and will check all connections.

But, I think the trailer socket is not getting power to pin 7 because of the fault with the live wire to the rear light. I believe the rear LH light live wire crosses the rear to provide power to the cable hook up in the RH corner, not the other way round.

So, back to the fault with the live wire to the rear light

Probably depends on who fitted the trailer socket. If there's any scotchblock or screw terminal connector I'd change them for bullets.

I may be wrong but I thought everything came into the RH and then went out to the left (that is why there are four way bullet sockets in there to act as terminal blocks)

Looking at the wiring diagram the left rear side light is fed from the right hand side as it shows the trailer connection is before the tail light. If you haven't got the diagram PM me with an email address and I will send a copy
