I have the same issues - heater seems to have a mind of its own, works when it wants to and not when it doesn't. Sometimes have heat, sometimes have fan, sometimes have nothing - how quaint!!

A lot of cars use resistors to control fan speed, located
in the airflow to cool them
Often they break due to vibration or over heating
Some can be repaired, i repaired mine on a rover 45
Not sure where they are on yours, but i'm sure i've
seen a recent thread in the disco section

defenders have a heater and fan like a mouse blowin thru a straw at yaLand rover aren't known for quality heaters

must be an aftermarket blower that will increase the power etc somewhere!!!

Got no heat now anyhow dave as engine completely knackered so heat is least of my worries.
