No gears/drive

Hi
Went to pull away in my Series 3, big clunck, and no drive in any gear. Didn't get anything in four wheel drive either. Transmission handbrake inoperative too. Gear stick goes in, but then nothing.
Can anyone tell me where to look first.

try hi/low lever it often jumps out and also have you got a prop spinning whilst its running in gear

That is strange, no transmission brake would point to busted rear drive train, but no four wheel drive either? If what you're describing is accurate I can only think of broken rear shaft and faulty drive to the front that you may not have known about or freewheeling hubs not engaged?

I'd go for broken rear halfshaft and your 4wd not working. Time to lift each wheel in turn and see if the propshafts turn with the wheels.

Thanks chaps. Really usefull advice - i'll investigate the rear half shafts once the current monsoon ends.

Is go for front fwh open and broken rear shaft as the most likely they go with a bang. Does it feel like it selects gear, whip the middle seat out and see if the rear prop spins in 2wd

yes, it feels like it engages gear, and there's a light feel of contact through it, so I guess half shaft sounds right, with there being some contact between the two surfaces at the break.
I'll check the hubs first.
No cebtre seat so that'sll be an easy check!

Yeah if it does turn out to be a shaft its a nice easy fix mate, youll probably have to drop the diff out as the ends usually jam in but other than that its not too bad, lets you fish out the little bits of swarf anyhow.
