Re: Clutch master and slave cylinders
 Hi Just fitted a new 1 piece master and slave and now no gear's will select, would it be the bearing or the arm that has seized. I have oiled the arm but little movement , should the arm go right in ?. when this first came obvious it was the slave I got the car back by selecting reverse and engine started to get it home that was only yards from my house, so I was in gear at one stage, from that gear stick will go into all gates but no gear and clutch? any ideas please?.

 Hi replaced a new master and slave and still no clutch, slave arm only moves very slightly, oil was put on arm but think it must be seized ? gear finds all gates but dont move clutch. any way to get arm or thrust bearings to move if it is that.

From what little I know the master/slave fails because of internal oil/lube clutch problems. My master/slave failed a few weeks back and I ended up replacing that as well as the clutch and oil etc. Basically however many master/slaves you replace they will always fail unless the route of the problem is solved which is the lubing up of clutch parts etc. Also getting in there to do that is quite a major job so you may as well like me get the clutch done as well. All in, about £400 for me anyway.

The slave pushes on the lever that sticks out the box. This lever rusts up and gets stiff. This stiffening overloads the plastic cylinders or the slave bracket causing any of them to fail. The shaft must be free to rotate or the hydraulics will fail again ;)
It's possible to free the shaft by flooding it with oil over a few days.

I've used a hammer to get it moving then it's just a case of keep wiggling it until it's free. The only other way is to remove the box so you can get to both sides. I always take the shaft out to lube with Moly grease which is the only long term fix anyway.
The fork and shaft in the bell housing get really dry as in the 1st pic
I lobe the shaft as in the 2nd pic
