hey all, got a bit of a preoblem with the disco, when i'm on normal drivin on the road, brakes are fine, but when i'm on low box for off roading and just drivin about in fields i lose my brakes completely, i have to pump a fair bit and then they work but if i keep driving agin they go again, NOT a good thing to have when going up and down steep bits!

any idea what it could be? it's like it's got summat to do with the revs being high or summat

any help would be great

cheers

going down hills...

A. You shouldn't be touching the brakes - PERIOD

B. Fluid level checked recently by any chance?

A. if you stall goin up a stupidly steep climb and stall then yout do!

B checked all levels and have bleeded a few times

it also does it when flat but still in low box

Could it be a loose wheel bearing allowing the hub to wobble and push the pads away from the discs?

checked all the bearings as i did an axle change last week :S

was thinking it could be some kind of vaccum trouble, even if i put it in low box and drive down my track, by the time i get to the end ive got no brakes, but if i pump it then put it in normal range and go on the main road, it's absolutelly fine

very wierd

Is it a disco2?(maybe not)....anyway if u have ABS and WABCO modulator then check the brake system controll diagram in RAVE and u'll see that the transmission high/low switch is involved .Normally it is for HDC but with a Landy u never know how some protocol will override some functions...its very eldritch that u lose brakes jut in low ratio...make a test to make sure it's not a management issue...disconnect the high/low switch from TB and take a ride....see what happens.

TB=transfer box.....i dunno much about 200tdi's but i think the TB is the same(LT230) so if u approach it from the front propshaft u have to see it on the left upper side...u must locate a plug there.....there's one on the right side too but this one is for the central diff lock. Dont u have RAVE?...if not u better download one;).

Don't bother looking for it mate... your 200tdi doesn't give a shi'ite what ration your TB is in!

If it's just at low revs, it does sound like it could be a vacuum issue. What does the pedal feel like when you have no brakes?

it's at high revs not low revs, when in low box the engine revs more, the pedal just drops to the bottom without any feeling, comes back up ok, take about 4-5 pumps to get the brakes back
