as titled, #@*%# Ninety run out of fuel lastnight:mad::mad::mad:

is this the sender plaing the fool or the wiring / gauge just being un-reliable (the Lucas effect?)

Ive been speaking to a friend (longtime Ninety owner) who says the senders plyup and that a new sender will cure thiso_O sound reasonable?

or di I just keep a 20L jack in the back for e&e purposes:D

Rich. ('86 TUL,FFW if this makes a diference?)

Did the orange light not tell you it was getting close to empty.

wello_O

the fuel-warning light had flickered with a half tank shortly (very) before I stopped the engine @ tesco to get cash before going to fuel-up.
I presumed there was enough remaining to at least start the engine:mad:

guess it was running on the contents of the fuel filter:rolleyes:

lesson learned, at least my D1 has a reliable gauge (not run out YET:D)

new genuine sender has landed, will fit later & hopefully all will be good.....

well, as good as a 1986 Ninety TUL FFW can be anyway:D

Rich.

What sender was it? Ive been after a genuine one for mine but could never find one.

I put a BritPart sender in my rolling resto last weekend. The orange guage showed full with the orange low fuel light lit. I put 20l fuel in the tank and it was still full on the guage with the orange light lit. Not impressed and returning it. Would be good to know if you found one that works.

1986 90 2.5 Petrol. Runs like a dream, now.

tried a new genuine LR sender & nothing but wiggled the wires on back of the cluster:rolleyes:

good old Lucas wiring:rolleyes:

I can pull onto the drive looking comfortable knowing I'm just showing above the quarter tank , jump in next morning and on pulling away the gauge drops into the danger zone and on hills the fuel light flashes , its then a case of holding your breath and talking to the old girl till she gets to a fuel station . I don't get many miles once that light flashes hence I normally keep her over half full all the time.

Same here! 1/2 to 1/4 goes down nice and steady, below that seems like it’s being jettisoned out the back!
