Newer Range Rover: would you go for RRS or FFRR?

Which would you choose to replace your Classic/P38 Range Rover

Most people on here tend to own RR Classic or P38's, but supposing you were going to trade them in for a newer model, which would you go for - Range Rover Sport or Full Fat Range Rover L322?

Perhaps more importantly, why would you choose one over the other?

not sure. I kind of like the sport, but isn't it more of a Disco underneath? And it's smaller inside than you'd think.

However, the FFRR is just too big. Too ostentatious. One of the reasons I bought my P38.
 
The RRS is a Disco with Range Rover stamped on the bonnet, just as the Evoque is Freelander 2 in disguise. I'd go for the L322 any day of the week.
 
I'm always surprised about the dislike (bordering on hatred!!) of the RR Sport, which is part of the reason I created the poll! I must admit, I do hate the chav'd up ones with 22" wheels, chrome everywhere and all the other stupid stuff. But to me, a proper RR Sport with the 18" or 19" wheels, A/T tyres, etc is a really nice car!

The reason for me asking is I am changing my day job and will be chopping in the two cars I have (BMW + RRC) for one vehicle - current first choice being a TDV6 Range Rover Sport.

Whatever I choose will still need to take me to Morocco this year, but for day to day use I feel both the FFRR and Disco 3/4 are far too big for my needs, so the RRS would be ideal!

I am not sure how the Morrocans will take the Newer shape RR's, they're more used to the usual beaten up RR's, Def's, Disco's and Series vehicles.....:D

They may target you as a rich boy with money to give them for their 'wares'....:D:D:D
 
That is true Saint, but I'm not buying the vehicle solely for that trip, it's gotta be an all-rounder - I'll just make sure it is covered in mud before I go to disguise it's newness!!
 
i bought a full fat one 2 months ago, and i cant praise it enough. after many happy years of classics and avoiding the p38 like the plague, i would say no to a sport, they are a bit too small, and have too much of a chav following

To my eyes the L322 is an ugly oversized lump with a heavy looking rear like some women I know. If I were rich enough to buy a newer car and I was forced to buy an LR product, the RR sport or the latest Disco, which is basically the same car as the sport, would be my choice. On second thoughts I might go for a Defender.

Jealous me thinks lol

If you ask me when you look at a p38 against an l322 the p38 looks gross and very outdated especially the interior
But that's my opinion
Everyone have their own tastes

As as a non "rich" 19 year old with an l322 their not as expensive as everyone thinks
As long as you can do the work your self and with your own diagnostics they really are affordable.

Yes there more complex but that's makes the diognostics system much better that of the p38

Bring on the hatred comments ! Lol

This is a pretty soul searching question. TBH I am not a fan of the L322. It just looks big and ugly on the outside and I am not a fan of the interior on my mates. I like the design of the L320 but never been in one. Then there is the whole chavs thing going on. People today who buy new Range Rovers most likey are town/city based. I am sure that if a comparison was done against who bought Classics and P38's there would be a high quantity of country folk. As a result the design trend for Land rover is moving away from its original customer base and more towards city folk. You only need to look at the Evoque for confirmation of this. Call me old fashioned (call me what you like) but I genuinely love the look of the P38 and if the day comes when i am no longer able to own one I very much doubt I would looking to buy a new shape Range Rover. Same goes for the Cherokee. I am a big fan of the XJ but wouldn't touch one of the new shape ones with a barge poll.
 
Depends how many seats you want amongst other things, 7 in a Disco. Every one I know with a RRS or a new Disco love them, new full fat RR is a serious RangeRooney, to much 'gansta' bling for me......................
Cars need fake chrome like a dog needs flees.
 
I bought a l323 td6 twelve months ago and still love it. Yes they do have niggles but the driving experience and huge amount of space are fab. Found the rrs a bit too small. Spend plenty of time looking for a good one, then enjoy it....

An decent L322 complete with dodgy autobox costs more than double the price of a late P38.
TBH if I had the money I wouldn't touch any LR product with a barge pole, they are all overpriced crap, all showroom glitz and bugger all quality. My mates L322 is a constant source of problems with everything from the door handles breaking, to steering column problems, wing mirrors flapping, paint worn off the crap plastic seat bases, corrosion round all the window trims, constant niggles with the electronics, not to mention water leaks. All in all a typical LR product.
If I had £15K to spend I would be in a Land Cruiser, the P38 only cost £4850 by comparison, it was the cheapest 4 x 4 I could find. Why are secondhand LR products so cheap compared to Toyota? Cos they are crap:mad:
 
For a 96 car my p38 is in the stone age. I know the old adage if it ant broke don't fix it but if we all thought that we would still be in Ford model T's.
