Hi Gary,

If you are looking at a td5 then it is either a Defender or a Disco 2. For £7.5K you are going to be looking hard for a good well cared for Td5 fender, but they are out there.

D2's are plentiful and a lot cheaper , but there is a lot of rubbish out there, ironically they suffer from rusty rear chassis. You could get a D3 for your money.

Cheers

The 3 litre diesels are very gutless, if you want good pulling power you want either a discovery 2 td 5 or a defender td 5. The disco is much more refined if you need to do long distance and want comfort, there are loads around and you have to be prepared to look at lots to find a really good one,I had to see about 30 before I found mine 5 years ago

does seem a D2 without the rusting back chassis is becoming the holy grail

looked at loads myself , with owners saying the chassis's were solid , but looking at them some had more plates than the seventh bridge

then the D3 came up , alas needs work so went with that

don't think a D3 would have too much of a problem towing a 1.8 kg trailer

does seem a lot of D3 s now coming on the market for silly money if u don't mind doing the work

like everything depends in what u wish to take on and finances

if the belts haven't been done have to allow for a grand ,

did at one time think about buying a cheap D2 with a rotten chassis and getting it replaced , but couldn't find any local companies to do it

Ok looks like d3 going to look at one tomorrow 06 with 120.000.had cambelt 10.000 ago and its £7,800.Is there anything i need to look for.
Thanks gary

Welcome aboard :) Funnily enough we came back to LR from the same place you are, with the very same problem. IMHO, to say ni$$an were unhelpful is being kind.:mad::mad: Ours turned into a piece of absolute rubbish. Good Luck with them.

(also) IMHO, your choice of LR product should be down to how much electronics you want to get involved with. Defender Td5's have some, but they are mainly simple fixes - D2 TD5 have more, and I'd advise that budgeting include your own nanocom in the essential costs. L322 are lovely, but they are very complex, and can have many issues, and some of them can be a royal PITA - I have a pal with one, who has had all the usual suspects, and now has a battery drain issue, that isn't any of the "normal" causes, which is doing his head in.

We run D1's, both 300Tdi's, and no full authority electronics involved, which suits us. D1's rot for an occupation though, and unless you can weld, I'd advise you steer clear.

D2's are sometimes available for re-import ( from Japan, where they do not have road salt - thus no rust... ) - £6K will get you a decent one, but you might have to wait for it to come home in a container ;)

On the subject of your freinds battery drain, my own mate had this problem and it turned out to be the alarm setting and resetting continually because if a loose wire on a door locking actuator,

Took you long enough...........:p:p
