Hi All,

Just collected a 10 year old TD5 with a relatively low mileage today. All was well until I actually got it home and a few minor niggles have since shown them self. I am wondering if it is 'they all do that' or if I am being daft - but any advice would be helpful.

1. The central locking only unlocks the drivers door. If I push the button on the fob twice, i hear all the other locks doing something but the plungers don't lift - I have to reach over to open all the other doors, including the boot. This makes me think there is something fundamental loose or faulty as it is not just one door that is not working but them all.

2. Acceleration in 3rd / 4th gear can be lumpy - This may be the oil in the injector issue that has been talked about - It is dark now but I will take a look in the daylight to see if I can track anything. Are there any other places I should be looking ?

3. I have a grumbling noise from the front wheel at speeds around 30-40mph, possibly a tyre issue, or grumbly bearing? Seems to be linked to wheel revolutions - I will see if the wheel has thrown a weight or needs more air - again I will check in daylight.

Thanks for any help!

the td5 only unlocks drivers door on one click the rest on second click i have a ten year old td5 with 113000 on clock they have a reputation of certain problems they like a clean air filter as a start as for injector harness i changed mine not a hard or expensive job you will find plenty of help on this forum i find elimination is the best way forward:)

Hi Guv'nor. The single button push works as expected, no matter how many times i press the unlock button - I cannot get the other locks to lift.

It is weird as it was working fine this morning when I picked it up. I gave it a pretty thorough check over and tested all the buttons. I will give the wires a wiggle in day light when I have a poke around at the ECU and oil issue.

Thanks.

They don't lift in the same way as on a TDi for example.

Stand outside the locked car, press the button once and check the drivers door opens, then press the fob again and check all the other doors - they should be unlocked now.

My TD5 unlocks all doors and boot on the first press of the button, so i am thinking that there are 2 options programmable through test book /rovacom etc, is this right?

YES IT IS - according to UP (hope I'm remembering this right Nick??) this can be configured using a Nanocom as well.

Yes your right Dave ;)

It's called "single point locking" and its a pain in the ass "imo", turned that off straight away !!. Got sick pressing button once, walking up to car with say a box in your hands then trying another door or boot and bloody thing still locked !!! have to then fumble for remote to open other doors. Not a big deal, but it annoyed me!!

Im also a firm believer it contributes to the "dodgy locks", as they "try" to open on the first push but don't. A couple of mine were a little reluctant when I got the car, been fine since turning off the single point locking

On a flip side, its aimed as a security feature for when you go to your car and potentially stops somone else jumping in the other door, probably more relevant for women on their own. You can also turn on "speedlocking", that locks all the doors as you drive off over 8km/h.

when i got my disco there was only 1 lock working turned out to be the actuatrors had gone £60 each
and do you only get the lumpy feeling in 3/4 when giving it a bit could be the turbo modulator causing over boost £20 but you realy need to have it pluged in to find any faults
the grumbling could be a wheelbearing can become louder when turning at speed the sealed type hubs are expensive £175+

Thanks for the help so far. I am new to Discos (only haven driven old defenders in the past).

I will check the obvious fuses etc - I would be worried if the 4 other doors stopped working over the 20 mile drive home and they were all due to faulty actuators. They all opened ok when I picked it up

I think I would prefer to have it programmed to unlock all doors with one push.
