hi all ,

Mat here from Portsmouth. Last week i brought myself a 2000 4.0se P38.

After having the heavens open a couple days after i noticed my passenger side footwell damp. Its deffo not coolant as its clear and has no smell.

After abit of rooting around it appears the water is coming from the vent underneath the glovebox.

Any of you guys had any similar problems and know what is happening ?

cheers

Mat

Cheers for the reply lads.

Been on the forum search for a while but not came across anything bullet proof as of yet so once ive got a abit of time to myself ill get outside and prod around.

Its all learning at the mo as im coming from high powered japanese cars to these , but im loving every min of the v8 rangey ownership.

I would definitely look at the pollen filter covers under the bonnet, 1 each side just below the air con/ heater air inlet grill on the bulkhead, small plastic covers approx 8" long x 1" wide held down with 2 phillips screws. Unscrew and remove the cover, clean the cover and the mating surface, and re-assemble, sealing it back with some clear silicon sealant, even put a fillet around the outside of the joint, particularly the top. This is an easy fix and hopefully it may be the only cause of the water ingress. Good Luck, JV-ROVERMAN.

I concur with JV-ROVERMAN. I had the same problem, and checked the sunroof and aircon drains - however, I should have checked the pollen filter covers first, as its the easiest to do and it turned out to be the problem.

While you've got the covers off, slide out the filters and make sure they've been changed in the recent past. Mine were disgusting... :)

sounds exactly like mine and was pollen filters sit with the car on and fan on full and if you can here water swishing around in that area it will defo be your problem hth

I have same problem but it is not the pollen filter, mine is bone dry. But I had not heard about the sun-roof drainpipes, will check for that. Especially as I have also had some water drip from the interior light - the one by the windscreen. Have currently taken out all the dash etc to check O rings but they are OK. I dont want to go to the heater matrix if it isn't that and I can see how it is as the water is clear.
BUT....the engine now also overheats after about 3-4min driving - can't see why ! I'm guessing this is a co-incidence

Just found this link - hope it helps
