Newbie & Intermittent 3 amigo's

Hi all new to the site been looking for a while but now need advice.I have the 3 Amigo's but not all the time, sometimes i wil not see them for a few days and then all the time for a few days at a time. MOT is coming up Tuesday and i have been told that if the lights are on during the test it will be classed as a failure i have been been quoted £270 from local LR dealer (Guildford) for a new sensor.My question is how can it be the sensor if its only intermittent and what can it be any advice will be most welcome

It can be a number of problems one is change the brake fluid as the fluid in time clogs up the valve in the ABS pump. or you may find it could be a loose wire as mine only came on when going over pumps or a pot hole in the road. look on Ebay for the senser i bought mine for £159 all genuine to.

Would be worth checking the security of the wire under the gearstick gaiter.

Hi to all, I am chasing a similar problem at the moment. The 3 amigo's come and go at their own will, ie ABS, down hill decent and traction control. I have been looking on this site for some time and have tried all the suggestions listed to no avail. Ie. brake light switches, gear lever wires for breakage, wheel sensors etc. No one seems to have reposted a dead set fix that repairs the problem. My thoughts are; the only thing that is related and common in this case is infact the wheel sensors, but they all seem ok. I would also appreciate any feed back on this problem. My daughter bought the vehicle 4 years ago and the problem raised its ugly head not long after. The vehicle is a 1998 diesel turbo which has traveled 140,000 kms. Every thing appears to be working OK. Need to fix the problem so it can be traded to make way for new babies. She lives 3 hours from the nearest LR dealer. Thankyou in advance.

The sensors can be checked with the aid of a multimeter. Disconnect the plug from the sensor (e.g.for the front they are under the bonnet near the wheel arch, passenger side is behind the battery) and do a resistance check. You should get somewhere between 1 and 1.5 KOhms. If you get this reading I would almost garuntee that they are ok. As the sensors are just a push fit into the wheel hub they can sometimes become knocked loose (hitting a kerb/bump/ etc) which will affect the air gap. An intermittent fault could be that the air gap is right on the borderline. This was the problem I had with mine, I took out the suspect sensor (proved correct with the resistance check) and fully cleaned the sensor and locating hole and then reffited (ensuring it is pushed in as far in as it will go DO NOT HIT IT AS IT WILL BECOME DAMAGED). I have not had a problem since.

there is no dead set fix, there are a number of possible causes for this problem, what fixes one may not fix another...

Well i found the solution buy a new sensor and hey presto no more lights thanks for the advice.Mind you it still cost me £250 to pass its MOT Fit again for another year
I am not sure if i would have been able to remove the existing sensor and check it without damaging it as it was nigh on impossible to get it out,but finally suceeded with the help of a hammer,screwdriver and pliars

Hi to its broke again, Was the sensor one of the sensors located near and behind the 4 road wheels or was it another sensor some where else. If so, where is the one that you replaced located? Thanking you in anticipation of a reply.
