Hi All.
A few years ago I acquired a scraped Fiat panda 4x4 and made up my own chassis for the engine and drivetrain bits. It is basically an open frame farm utility vehicle with a single seat and tipper-back and recently a winch. It is just a fantastic tool and is in daily use but is not road legal.
Later I bought an old 3 door range rover with a Perkins diesel with the intention of doing the same thing but never got round to it so the car is used as-is.

I feel a new project looming and have been doing a few drawings etc.
Basically I wish to try a tracked vehicle (as many places on my land are no-go bogs during the winter / full not half track). I think an automatic disco 2.5d would be a good donor car but am still open to suggestions.
There are many problems to overcome and that is at least as much of the fun as actually having it finished.

I really would like a brief summary of the interchange ability (or not) of engines / gearboxes / transfer box. Ie if I build it around a 2.5d auto would there be any major problems swapping to a manual gearbox or a v8 engine. Is the transfer box in exactly the same plane for an auto or manual gearbox?

Many dimensions already taken from my old 3 door but I should really get the right vehicle as it may be all different.

Thanks
Vince
