New whine from the back. What's the most likely culprit?

do what they did in the old days stuff some sawdust in it and worse still a old friend of mine some years ago put 2 peeled bananas in his noisy escort mk2 gearbox then sold it believe it or not it actually worked

Best i seen was a Mk4 cortina traded in, i got job to check it over for resale.
It had a bad misfire, so usual plugs, points(remember them) condenser, leads, getting desperate now, timing check ok, earths blablabla, still there.
Compression check, oh dear, #### all on number 1? Hmm?

Head off, low and behold no piston LOL, just a nicely shaped lump of wood,
no rod nothing? Un ####ing believable. Wood added to act as splash guard from thrown oil off crank, someone went to a lot of trouble.
