hiya

had 2 x new tyres fitted to my freelander yesterday and noticed today my steering wheel is now out of line.

now surely just by fitting new tyres couldnt put it out

ive taken the steering wheel off and moved it round a notch on the spindles but now concerned its knocked something out, ie my tracking etc.

just dont understand it, i rang them and they said if i want it to be aligned by lasers will cost me £60.00

it was find before i had the tyres fitted, the fronts had about 2mm on them they were removed, the rear ones that were nearly new put on the fronts and the brand new ones on the back, they are all now bridgestones

any ideas please

just dont want to ruin my new tyres

is it just a question of keeping an eye on them or is it worth getting them aligned by these lasers.

it doesnt pull to the left when im driving in a straight line and let go of the wheel for a second

thanks as always

hi just had a thought when I have new tyres put on I always have the new ones put on the front and it is 70% front wheel drive and 30% rear until the car needs full wheel drive the reart ones always last longer than the front hope this helps

hi just having the tyres change will not alter steering but may alter the camber a bit you need to have your tracking done but that is a rip of at £60 try some where like national tires they did mine on lazer for £25
hope this helps

New tyre's will alter the camber by the same amount as they will alter the tracking....................NOT AT ALL

hi the only belts you have are 2 which cover the altenator which also covers water pump and power steering you also for aircon the camshaft is a chain so no need to change that

Have found the answer to my question regarding 4 wheel tracking and the trackace. The current model won't do rear wheels. It's front wheel only. However, an add on kit is planned for later this year.

Hi Hippo, sorry but I've not been on for a couple of days. As you say, it only does basic tracking for the front wheels. I suppose you could use it to take a basic measure at the rear but it only gives an overall reading of toe-in or toe-out (in degrees & minutes) & with the rears you'd want to be able to do the wheels one at time which the Trackace currently can't.

thanks guys, im still so mystyfied of why they went out of line by only getting new tyres fitted but i know i will never get to the bottome of it.

im thankful it could have been alot worse and thats it all sorted out now, but at least i knew alot more stuff thanks to you guys when i went back down there and then knew if any ball**** came out i would then more the wiser.

thanks so much guys, as usual youve been a life saver

all the best

You should always out new on the rear - it tells you this in the handbook - you will knackered your VCU is you don't eventually

hiya

now i am confused ive fitted the brand new tyres on the rear and the partially worn ones on the front.

hope its right as i thought this was the correct way to do it.

sorry if im missing anything but defently wish to get it right

thanks again

thanks again guys, i did think the new tyres were suppose to go on the rear but when i read the other post i thought oh ****.

at least i defently now know in the future and at least its saved me from damaging my VCU

how stupid I was quoting that of course they will not alter the camber i must have been having a of day and I have now learnt that the better tyre's must go on the back
