It might depend on what engine you have in it (you need to tell us) but I assume in any case the IRD will have to come out which is an expensive job just on its own.
On a FL1 TD4 it can be done without taking too much apart but it is VERY fiddly.

I think I paid £ 200 for a replacement turbo (exchange unit) 3 years ago and it took me and a mechanic mate about 6-7 hours to do. That does include cleaning out oil from intercooler etc. and plenty of tea and fags whilst doing the head scratching bit - at some points you are working blind.
It can be done much quicker though. 45 mins has been claimed but i think that is removal only and probably pushing it.
So if you are not doing it yourself then base your best guess on £ 250 for the unit and 5-6 hours labour charge start to finish. I guess you're looking at £ 500 give or take.
If you are doing it yourself then £ 250 and a weekend working on the car.

Thank you for that insight. Mine is a 1.8 engine. 2002, I have been quoted £764 for a new turbo repaired over a 4 weeks period Labour including £650 to remove and fit the turbo. £320 incl a battery. Breather Filters and service. Total £980. Is this reasonable.total £1774

1.8 has no turbo as standard build.

No you could buy a better one for that money. The cheaper option would be to fix it yourself and as Andy has said if it didn't come with a turbo then I would remove it and your problem would be solved
Find a different garage that knows what the **** they are talking about. The 1.8 is a K series petrol, which doesn't have a turbo. Unless it's an aftermarket kit, which is unlikely.
If it's a 2.0 L diesel, then the quote is 3 times what it should cost. A decent reconditioned turbo is £250, with another £250 to fit it.
As I previously said. Find another garage, that isn't trying to have you over a barrel!!

There is no such vehicle as a 1.8 TD4.
The 1.8 is a petrol.
The TD4 is a 2.0 litre diesel.
You need to identify what car you have.
