New to series 3, engine fault, please help!

Hello, im new to owning and running a series 3. ive just got mine on the road after its had a very long ley up since 1998! i spent 4 years on and off doing it up and now im finally driving it. Tonight she had her first hickup:

I was pulled out from lay by and didnt notice a sharp curb, and consiquently i was being shook around like a rag doll (i love leaf springs!) anyway i carried on, 1st gear and then into 2nd going up a hill and all of a sudden the engine seemed to loose power and it seemed as if i was in too high a gear to pull, so i dropped down to first and still the old girl was volently jerking forward and serging badly. i tried driving in low range for a while but the problem was still there. The idle speed also went slightly erratic and seemed as tho she was going to cut out at times.

what could this be? any idea would be greatly appreciated.

how steep was the 'hill' was it everest? ben nevis?

check yer fuel lines fer ****,including the pick up in the tank

it would also help if we had a clue to what injun yer got

its a 2.25 petrol.

no the hill wasnt a big one, certainly nothing to worry second or third.

ill take the airline to my fuel line tomorrow to make sure along with the pick up.
