eBay bargain! Yep I’ve bought yet another vehicle! I’ve got through dozens just like my Dad used to. I wanted a defender but too expensive and I have a bad back. One of the last 2002 4.6 RRs had to be V8 petrol and with bits you can work on still. Love old proper cars!

So far, new water pump and a new battery (huge CCA). Driver’s door lock had been changed at some point but a rubbish job at putting the door card back! Have to admit got husband to change water pump and refit door card correctly. I know what I’m doing and how to but he’s better at the execution part .

Fortunately the pump went on the driveway.....obvious what that problem was. Water everywhere and the noise. It was a mess!!

Next job is the SRS warning light. Is there really a problem with my airbags. Just need the light to come on with the ignition and then go off.

Obviously lots of others like the CD player not working, heated seats, rear NS window, etc, etc. None urgent and I’ll just fix any that I can over time. It’s satisfying to do.

Welcome., Next job should be to buy a diagnostics system. You may have an 'old' vehicle but she is electrickery heavy.A quick search on the Range Rover forum , will bring up lots of discussions on which to get. Any questions will usually get a quick answer, over there too.
Only lesson to pick up is, there is no such thing as a 'cheap /bargain' L322. Whatever price you get away with at point of sale, will soon fade , as you realise that, unlike Volvo/audi/bmw/et al, price of parts do not decrease with age of vehicle.
There are two bits of good news 1: you can do your own spannering and 2:there is lots of knowledge and experience on the forum. Stock up with please, thank you, cake and coffee , as they are the local currency. ;)
Other than that , enjoy :D

One thing I might add, just so you hate me before we start ;),

the last last P38’s they built were cobbled together from whatever they had left in the cupboard  I am not joking. Will be interesting to see what setup they have given you (comet alloys from last years Disco isle I bet )

Knowledge of how to rebuild/sync cylinder heads will be of use to you, and Gboxes as you have an auto.
You will get plenty of experienced help from the folks here no doubt.

Good luck :)

Too many pics sorry! Getting used to the tools on here :)!
I'll have to get a pic of wheels. Thanks for the tips. Tried using son's diagnostics thingy but it isn't a good one (he got one cheap for one of his cars) and it came up with a load of rubbish! It is on my list. I'm in this for way less than the sum of it's parts so nothing to loose at the moment financially. I managed to get a relatively cheap dog guard that that is way down on the to do list too. That isn't straight forward either!
I've owned a few Classic Minis so I know what throwing rubbish parts at a car can be like!
It pretty much as almost a full history and number of receipts. I have details of all of the previous owners and it spent almost its entire life on the Isle of Wight.
I didn't change the number plate. It came with this one and doesn't match any of the previous owners' initials. Any ideas?

Plus points. It goes and now locks. I believe I've resolved the battery drain. I like the chrome door mirrors and it has a dark leather interior. Even the headlight wipers work properly :):)

Oops my bad , it's a P38. Those can be had as a bargain :D

The last P38's weren't any more cobbled than the earlier ones..

The Comet alloys were "borrowed" from the D2 as the Hurricane 18" were short of supply, however the rest of the car is as bad as most P38's.

Latter ones were just better equipped ;)

Looks nice.

Bonatti Grey which is nice.

And it has the Proper V8 ;)

You’ve got my vote! :):):)

She nearly fooled me too, it’s a very very late one.

The first UK ones got galv dipped thoroughly before the bean counters got there ;)
The originals (test subjects) were sent to N.America

Luckily all P38's were zinc dipped.

It provides a sacrificial layer under the paint, it is often thought as "corrosion" however it's just the zinc degrading..

There were no pics when I replied and I did a bad, bad thing. I assumed, because 'ebay bargain' was used. That's normally the stock phrase from someone , who has just realised their bargain L322 is about to cost a shed load images.jpeg

No pics when I posted. i thought hang on this sounds like a P38
...recognised the issues :D
Yep! It was one of the last I guess.... 2002 changed to 4.4 and the L322. I didn't want one of those and I didn't want an early P38. Fingers crossed this works out. Already feels better now that the battery and water pump are done. I can also lock it now. That wasn't what I feared was wrong. The mechanism had been done but a garage had failed to put the door card and tweeter panel back right. This was causing a hit and miss issue because the knob that goes up and down by the door was jamming randomly so that you couldn't get it unlocked with the key or fob.
I have also pulled the wire on the rear window panel as it has the original receiver thingy too. I'm not bothered by having to stand near the rear window with the fob. Cheap solution to that problem! It's a very pleasant drive at the moment. I'm enjoying it while it lasts with my fingers crossed :):):)

Clearly I've not got the hang of using this Forum and its tools :):) oh dear!
My wheel pics have appeared in your post and not mine!
I've been out in it today. I'm delighted that I can lock it and I get in it and it starts. That is progress :):):). Puts a smile on my face and that's the whole point - if a car doesn't do that it has to go.

Yes that's the colour and I have 18" wheels and they are the right ones - I believe. I agree with your comment about parts. Classic Minis are the same too. I have owned five (including two vans - one was stolen). Thank you for your comments. I love it now that it doesn't have battery drain. I was getting really fed up with recharging and jumping it every few days!
