Morning, am at the end of my tether. Failed plastic radiator bung caused engine to overheat and die. Have seen similar issues with Discos in Oz but wondered if anyone else has had issues here? I have owned discos and defenders for years. this last one i owned for 6 months before this happened, still insides its 3 year warranty but Landrover dont want to know!!!(and say i or m,y local garage must have over tightened it).
Any thoughts/guidance appreciated.

Welcome,

Might help if you state year and engine etc.
If it is like the old 300tdi plastic rad / thermostat bungs then yes if they are overtightened then they can fail.

Cheers

the car is a 2018 HSE LUX, registered in march 2018, i bought it dec 19, i believe that its the 300 tdi

also, landrover saying that there is "No way this a manufacturing fault" and that I must have tightened it, which isnt true....

it is not the 300tdi, as that is from the mid nineties.

How can they guarantee one of their techs did not overtighten it? You are basically in a he said / she said scenario...was it always serviced by a LR approved dealer?

Cheers

I bought it from an approved landrover dealer, the issue i have is that it had a small RTA and was repaired by my local family garage using all LR parts under insurance. They have on the record confirmed not going near that part of the car. So it is right that the bung is the issue, it seems to be a weak part of the car, and it is difficult to say where the issue has arisen. I am stuck in the middle with no car now for 6 months and looks like we are going to have to go to court to sort it out.....
