There is no better feeling than spending three days ripping out a rusty old leaking fuel tank and fitting a nice shiny new one to find it starts first time! Happy days:D:D:D:D

I was warned it would be a filthy, pig of a job. The worst part was trying to get the 3 bolts off the front bracket, which were rusted to f**k and a real git to remove. But a combination of nut splitter, angle grinder, a 4lb club hammer and crowbar eventually did the job and the old tank just dropped out! Fitting the new one was a little tricky though as I had to attach the 2 rear bolts first then raise the front and fit the new bracket. The 3 replacement bolts were just as much a pain to get to as the old ones, but having smallish hands :)o) helped!

All in all, chuffed to bits that it's all done and no more diesel leaking on the driveway:D

Now only got to do the cambelt, wheel bearing, fanbelt, replace the door locks, fix the hole in the driver's floor, replace the door seals and hinge bolts, windscreen seal, .................... :(

The joys of owning Land Rovers:rolleyes:

Will hopefully be fitting mine tomorrow as long as it turns up. Tis a pig of a job though aint it. Hopefully the new one goes on easier than the old one comes out!!

Couple of tips which might help, put two axle stands under the old tank so it doesn't fall on you! And use a trolley jack with a piece of wood on it to support the new one while you fit the bolts - back 2 first, then jack it up into place and fit the new bracket with the 3 bolts, if you are fitting a new one of course. Either way, you will need to take the existing bracket at the front off so that the old tank will come out. It took me 3-4 hours just to get the old bracket off:mad:

Not sure if you have seen this, but it proved mighty handy!

Good luck!

Thanks for the link mate. The old one is off and waiting delivery of the new one so looking forward to getting it on there and not losing diesel no more!!

i did that as my first big-ish job on my first rrc when I joined the site.

it was a barstool of a job as the tankw as full when it started to leak. Plenty of rust in the eyes too
