just made a roof rack for my landi and mounted 4 55 watt spots on it any one tell me the best way to wire them up to my main lights please in idiot terms :confused: not that good yet coz this is my first landi:rolleyes: ta for any help HAPPY NEW YEAR TOO
 
Just to point out that to use them on the road in UK would be illegal. For this reason you should haver a switch so that they don't always come on with main beam.

i would also wire them up to a switch as my highbeam couldnt cope with 4 55watt spots and 2 150watt spots,It caused no end of problems and went rough a few stalks.Now they are on a switch i have had no trouble

if you was to wire them up to yer lights so that they came on with main beam. use a relay then your switch wont have to cope with excess current
 
thanks..Thats what i done but the contatcs didnt like it..Relay was all working fine:mad: Must be just bad luck for me!..You had any trouble with yours?
 
maybe yer switch was on its way oot before hand . even so you coul dtake a feed for teh spot relay from the light side of the main relay. but as it illegal it dunt really matter
 
Why illegal?
Fog lights have a height restriction but not driving lights, that comes from this months muddy landy mag.
Could be wrong but the amount of trucks, lorries, 4x4s etc that are driving around with them on i would be surprised.

Idiot terms.....
Main beam = Bright as fook an dazzling folk for miles.
Dipped beam = For normal driving in traffic' in the dark

Main beam = full beam
dipped beam = not full beam

Lots of people drive at over 70 mph, that doesn't make it legal.

Can't argue with the actual regulations, although I couldn't make head or tale of then either, but apparently UK market Tomb Raider Defenders icame with an all important relay missing, the parts department would sell you one, but LR couldn't sell the vehicle with the lights wired up!

Years ago (50s) it was fashionable to have a swiveling light on the quarter-light so that you could point it at signposts, I believe they were meant to be wired so they wouldn't work with the ignition on!
 
as said befor roof lights are legal and can come on wiht main/full beam but i would wire them seperate (if you do this you will need a telltail light) as if you go wading you don't want main beam on as the headlamp bulbs wont like being on when underwater
 
I wire my auxiliary lights by connecting the relays to the centre contact of an on/off/on switch, along with a dash mounted warning light. One of the other contacts is connected to main beam (or dip for a fog light) and the other one to a direct supply. Best of both worlds, in one direction the lights go on and off with the dip switch, in the other they go on and off when I want.

I have a TD defender and it came with the relay... the relay became faulty and I removed it to get a new one and now I can find it.
This relay is a 3 pin black relay that powers the main 4 pin yellow which powers the lights on the roof.

Can some one please send me a picture and the part number of this relay.... I once looked it up in microcat and it shows up as a TR specific part.

Please help!
