Disco 2 New seat options

Afternoon all,

I've always been keen to get the other half into green laning, we got back together a year ago and moved in, so I'm hoping she'll see green laning as a good family hobby with the chance of weekends away camping etc.
We went to an event at Warwick Uni at the weekend, and they had a Land Rover experience section, one with all the metal ramps etc. Both she and my 2yr old daughter loved.
She's admitted that she thinks she'd enjoy green laning and get really into it, the only issue now is that she says the D2 is rather lacking in terms of comfort and luxury. She has suggested she sells her Ford Kuga and I sell my D2 (after the money spent on mods, new turbo, new clutch it etc, I'm not keen on selling it!!) and we get a D3 or D4. When I told her of the scratches and occasional dent we may pick up, she said we'd have to avoid scratchy lanes or ones that could cause damage .

So, my thinking now is, upgrade the interior of the D2 so it will be a little more luxurious and less agricultural.

I did wonder if a D3/4 front seats would fit, but I'm thinking it'd need a lot of tinkering about with to make that work. So then I thought, would the seats from a P38 fit? I've seen some nice P38 leather seats, look more comfy and refined than the D2 leather seats, and the base looks similar to that of the D2.

So, does anyone know if it would be a simple swap, do the P38 seats fit straight in without messing?

Alternatively, what seats do you all have fitted to give you a bit more comfort and luxury?

I'd have thought a D2 was significantly more luxurious inside than a Ford Kuga......

Sadly not. Her Kuga has leather interior, heated seats (that are pretty comfortable), air con etc. Nice SUV to drive too, although it'd never go the places a Landy could.But definitely more luxurious than my '01 D2.

That sounds more like spec than luxury. D2 could be had with aircon and heated leather seats. If you don't have them, maybe the easiest swap would be from a higher spec D2?

Get her to tell you exactly what spec she wants. Heated seats etc shouldn't be too hard to sort out. I agree about the comfort of the existing seats, although bizarrely after a very long journey I get an ache across the top of my back which I never got with the D1!

Shes not too worried about the general spec, ie air con etc, but she thinks the seats aren't really comfortable for a day/weeknd out on the lanes. She understands I'd not want to trade my D2 for another D2 as I'd have to start from scratch again buying and fitting the mods. I was just thinking that some more comfortable seats may be a happy compromise.

I've never found comfort an issue to be fair, but her last car before our little came along was a Merc C-Class coupe, and although they were sporty seats, were pretty comfortable. Now, having been in a RR vogue and a D5, she's thinking the seats are too dated and lacking in comfort in the D2

Well I would be keeping the D2 and getting a newer model girlfriend with a suitably spec'd ass for sitting on D2 seats.

Not an option I'm afraid, engaged to be married and she's the mother of my daughter. and on a plus, when we were working out finances etc, it did come up that the D2 is an expensive hobby as I've not got out so much over the last 18months, and maybe it was time to sell it, but she said no, she wanted me to keep it. So, thinking i should really try and make it more 'friendly' for her.
Maybe give it a few years, and a 'younger' model may be needed to replace her

You can fit another D2 interior with all that stuff on it pretty easily. Leather ones on ebay are pretty reasonable.
I want to retrofit armrests to mine but cant work out what i need. That could help.

You don't say what spec of D2 you have. My ES has heated leather seats with electric adjustment and I find them very comfortable. As others have said you can buy interiors on EBay fairly cheaply, but beware, the drivers cushion is nearly always trashed.
I bought my D2 with a badly damaged drivers cushion and after looking at refurb options I discovered that the cushions are identical between driver and passenger seats. However, in order to buy a passenger cushion in good nick, I had to buy an entire interior, which was still much cheaper than having the drivers one refurbished.

I find the D2 very comfy.

the material of the seats plays a minimal part IMO.

Leffer D2 seats feel the same as Material.

If anything the material ones feel comfier, well to me they do.

Mine is a GS and i find it very comfy, only issue is the seat doesn't really go far enough back, but it's the only car apart from the P38 that doesn't give me back and neck ache!

Read recently that you can reverse the seat runners to get more legroom, maybe have a look at that?

Totally forgot that, mine is the basic ‘S’ spec. So no added creature comforts. Suited what I wanted at the time, less to go wrong.

Shame though, the guy that works on mine had or knew of a really good set of heated leather seats plus rears for £200, I should’ve taken them, but it was before the Mrs and I got back together, so didn’t think I really needed them, not when I had other things to buy/pay for.
Might just see if anyone locally has a leather interior we can try out and see how she likes it.

There is just something about leather, granted it burns your bum on a hot day and it is slipperier, but it is pretty hard wearing and not so prone to sagging, but it just looks and smells so good!

On one of our dates, when we got together the first time round, I took her along a rather good lane, admittedly a tad rutted and bumpy (she did say had she known she'd have worn a more supportive bra

), and she is up for giving laning a real go (especially as it now seems our daughter seems as though she'll like it). She just likes the finer things, and would prefer the comfort levels of say a D4 or D5 or even a RR Vogue rather than that od a D2 'S'. But if further down the line she decided she wasn't so interested in coming out with me, it wouldn't be too bad.
I may add, my drivers seat is in need of repair to the bolster which has worn and torn over the years, so I was had been kinda considering at least replacing that seat anyway if I found a direct replacement that matched the interior. By replacing both front seats, it just means I could possibly tempt her indoors to join me for some adventures.

The P38 front seats look like they'd be more cushioned and comfy, plus the ones I'd be looking at are heated and have armrests. I just thought that may make a little difference?
