Just bought a 1984 LR 90 for a work vehicle. It has a 200 TDI engine upgrade. Really pleased with it. It has a rear wiper but its not connected. All the wiring is bundled up inside the door frame. Could this be a later door? did 1984 models have a rear wiper?
Also can I ask what spec oil is recommended ?
TIA

Engine oil spec from land rover I believe was 15/40. Although people use 10/40 as well. I personally Use a 15/40 semi synthetic but straight mineral is also fine. The important thing is to service regularly. Either 12months or 6k miles. With 6k being the absolute upper limit not a guide. Servicing earlier is not a problem. Before the fire my engine had done nearly 400k miles, even though I have fitted a replacement engine to speed up The rebuild I plan on rebuilding my original.

rear doors are completely interchangeable from the first series 2 door through the last defender door. As they tend to rot out and be replaced it could be from any model (I am on my third door). I would Not worry about it. And if you want to wire in the rear wiper it would not be a huge job even if you don’t have any of the sorting to start with.

I have a 1993 90. It has a wiper on the rear door which is powered from a piece of flex passing via the headlining. I recently replaced the rear crossmember where I had to cut the wiring loom - there were no wires for the rear wiper in the wiring loom. My wiper doesn't have the park option wired in, so it starts when you turn the switch and stops when you turn it back!

I have rear wiper in my 1993 90, and tbh it aint worth a toss!
Proper factor wiring goes through a rubber conduit at the bottom of the door, factory dash rear wiper switches used to be expensive.

As for engine oil, nothing fancy is needed, cheap as chips is just fine, and change every 5k.
Diffs and transfer box will also happily run on the cheapest 80/90 you can get, gearbox likes clean atf.

Again with the though regular changes on either time or mileage, don't just leave it in there!

On the wiper my '89 110 had a rear wiper fitted when I bought it that was all factory switch gear and ran through the wiring loom in the chassis so I am guessing (I say this because it was not the most original truck when purchased!) it was an option on the earlier models. But I think it was just that an option, and remained so throughout production. My friends TD5 90 does not have one fitted.
