Hello everyone

Just brought my first landy, a 1999 1.8 freelander and have a few questions.

I brought the Land Rover as a 2WD no front prop, no vcu and no rear prop. To Convert it back to a 4WD do I just need the two props and a re conditioned VCU? It drives well as a 2WD so I’m guessing the VCU was the cause of the 2WD conversion or could there be another reason which would prevent it going back to 4WD?

Also the fuel gauge gives a questionable reading, give or take a quarter of a tank, is this an issue with the sender or something else?

Other then that all tickedy boo, even all the windows work!

Thanks

Callun

Its possible a recon vcu and props will get it going in the 4x4. But not always. Some take the vcu and props oft when the vcu fails. Low cost solution and drive it like that. Others take them oft because either the rear diff or the ird (intermediate reduction drive - transfer box at the front which takes drive from the gearbox and sends it to the front wheel's and down the rear prop) has failed. It will work on front wheel drive only but power to the rear pinion has a problem. Its a try it and see situation of putting it all back to 4x4.
