Hello All

As you can tell from the title i am a new member and also new to Range Rovers. I was hoping you guys may be able to give me some advice about a few problems that came along with my P38 4.0 se 1995. I have read a lot your threads and have managed to solve some of the issues, so thanks very much :).

Current problems.

When i turn up the heater past about half way a terrible noise comes from the passenger side dash area, sounds like a plane is in the car. The dash vibrates as well, i am pretty sure this is not normal. is this a fan problem. Someone suggested that there may be leaves collected onto it, is this feasible.

The other problem is that my boot door does not open, could this be a fuse problem or do i need a new door latch.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks very much

Ajay

You have two fans in your Rangie, so it is quite possible there is some debris causing your noise or possibly bad bearing causing a squeal.

The button on your boot is a switch that fires the boot catch solenoid, it is possible you have a fuse gone or perhaps a bad button. Does it clonk when you press the button? if not it is an electrical problem.

Thanks for the reply.

I am having a right nightmare with car at the moment. Anyway the button makes no noise at all so I guess it must be the electrics. Should I replace the button?

My current nightmare is that it overheated and had to have a new radiator and thermostat fitted, it was fine for a week and then over heated again. Now they think it might be the gasket or even worse the block may be cracked.

Having it all checked out tomorrow, will let you know what happens.

Thanks for the reply, will check the fuse as well.

You can check the switch by just shorting the two connectors together. If this works then you know the switch is dodgy. Overheating eh, dont overlook the simple things like the radiator cap or the viscous coupling. This engines notorious for overheating as they get older and usually it is a combination of a few small things rather than one large thing. The blocks a preety bullet proof, but the heads can warp if overheated buy one of the previous things.

try also the viscous fan make sure its spinning... and the thermostat Hopefully its not the engine block if a specialist says it cant be skimmed they are lying its always worth a try I know that they have been done in the passed.

Ok thanks for all that.

I tried to access the boot release button from the inside of the car and cannot get the carpet cover panel off covering it. There are two screws at the bottom, but cant get to them because of the black plastic panel that runs along the bottom.

I guess I am being a bit simple, but is there a trick to getting this lot off.

I did have one success over the weekend, I managed to fix the bonnet catch, that was beeping for the last two weeks. Had to take the spring off of the catch and bash it few times the mechanism was all jammed up I then re-greased all, now working good as new. Huuuraaa

Will let you know, re the engine.

Thanks again

Ajay

You guys are a clever bunch

It would seem my brand new radiator cap was not doing it job properly. The mechanic has replaced and now all is well. when he ran the car full with water, it began to leak from a duff seal. I guess I just assumed it could not be that as it was bran new.

I am gonna take it for a long run later today to make sure all is ok.

Thanks for you help
