Hi all, I'm cal from leeds (hence the name leedscal not very original I know)
Just bought an r reg land rover discovery tdi 2.5 diesel.
Now I have always had a soft spot for these but being 22 I could never really justify owning one, but now I have a track car and passed my trailer test I have bought this to tow/use daily :)

Now for the newbie questions that you probably hear all the time (I'm not new to forums lol) but for some strange reason my ipad won't let me use the search bar :monitor_punch:

Being new to these I don't know anything about the diff lock and wanted to know what do I use for normal driving? H or L?

Second question is my heaters go warm ish and then blow cold but the engine temperature is fine, is there any common fault that could cause this? The car has been stood 5 month so maybe it could be to do with this?

There is a lot of oil down the o/s of the engine, seems to be coming from the rocker cover gasket but the oil is over max on the dipstick, could it have thrown it out of a breather round that area maybe?

Really sorry for the long intro thread and all the questions.
 
Hi welcome , H (high range) is for normal road driving , L(low range) is for off roading, diff lock , locks the centre diff not front and rear , you dont wanna use that on the road , if theres to much oil its worth taking some out !

heaters ant great, you may have an air lock


rocker covers do leak, i put a new (land rover) on and it still leaks, also check your vac pump as they like to **** oil out

Right then thanks for that mate, I'm going to get a new gasket anyway for peace of mind, while I give it a proper check over this week I will have a look around the vac pump.
 
Lifted carpet and looks pretty clean, the previous owner had it under sealed when he bought, but I will check the inner arches, sills ect when I can get it over a pit. Thanks for all your help. Are there many members from the leeds area or surrounding?

and as far as heater goes, i'd stick a new thermostat in...
 
Keep seeing an orange jacked up defender (I think lol) going down a650 when I'm coming from work anyone's on here?

I will try a new thermostat cheers for that.

I'm impressed with the price of parts for these, I'm in the jap 'scene' and the parts are crazy expensive lol
 
Another question :D
My engine is quite noisy (like most diseasals lol) but I think I need to re check the clearances, what should the clearances be set at?
