Hi All,

It would appear that the lack of power that my 2001 TD4 has display for some time now is definately down to a dodgy MAF.

A new part from the stealers is around £400. A Ronbox 2a and Pierburg is around £400 also.

The car is already registered as modified with the insurance as it has a tow bar and nudge bar on it.

The car has 235,000 mine on it so this will most likely be the MAF that it dies with.

So which do it get?

At least I can sell on the Ronbox after it dies.

The Ronbox & Pierburgh is around £250 on the interweb, depends on the general condition of your engine as to whether the extra power etc would just dig it an early grave

Problem with the Pierburgh MAF by itself is that it reads too low for the car, and needs the ronbox to compensate it, but if you run it til the car dies and you sell the ronbox anyway then that doesn't matter

As an aside, When I spoke to my insurance company, all the mods I have done are fine, but the biggie was the Ronbox as it makes the car faster. They need to know about the rest, for indemnity side if things, but the premium is generally only affected by engine performance mods I was told. (Adrian Flux)

I used mine for a while without the power turned on, on the Ronbox.

Admiral and Diamond that I am with now added mucho moola for the nudge bar and towbar. Admiral wanted to list the alloy wheels as a modification, but I got proof from landrover that it came out of the factory with alloys on. They backed down on that one.

They then expected me to pay even more money to actually cover the modifications!!!!

I went with Adrian Flux and their 4x4 policy.

We get a discount as Landy Zone members.

It also covers me automatically for 4x4 Response voluntary work

Just a small point when using the synergy. I noticed that last Years test results for opacity was .84 with the box set to 6 (Pierburg MAF) and this year with the power off but MAF on .43. I know the max is 1.3 so still well within spec but for those using a higher ronbox setting it may be advisable to switch the power off before taking for annual test.
