Hi all,

My wife bought an 03 Freelander last month and all was ok - for about a week. To cut a long boring story short, we thought the head gasket was on it's way but turns out the problem is more terminal. The engine has had the head gasket done already but not very well. The head is now warped and the block is basicallyno good to machine up either. So replacement engine needed.

Can any of you fine folk point me toward a reliable/reasonable breaker?? Ideally I'm looking for the head gasket replaced and water pump etc - the usual. Fitting isn't a problem as I'm doing it at home with my brother (mechanic).

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

I'm assuming your on about a 1.8K series petrol engine?? If so Cut your losses and get rid.. replacing the Head gasket usually just means a temporary respite before it goes again..

the engine is notoriously overstressed. you might want to do a search on here to see just how bad it is. If you bought it trade I'd return it as been unfit for purpose.. If you bought it privately then break it for spares and accept that you've been ripped off and Hopefully learn formn the experience

Cheers mate but I'm definitely after another engine. Bought it private and know we've had a howler. Just need pointing in the way of refurbed engines.

And yes I mean a K-series engine.

Cheers.
