I have long hankered after a landy to keep at my place in France. I already have several trail bikes there and have long wondered how I would convince the much beloved that a landy was needed.
A couple of weeks ago I arrived chez moi. I knew a few friends were going to be there to greet me but wondered who the old landy in the yard belonged to. As I got off my bike (a long ride in one day for a 50 year old BSA but that as they say is another story) the garden emtied into the yard as I pondered who could own this UK regd Landy. "Do you like it then?" I was asked. Puzzled at the question and the Happy Xmas sign written on it (it had been a long day) it took a little bit of time to sink in that the Landy was for me.
So I am the owner of a slightly scruffy but sound 1969 109. It has lights in the wings which I gather means it is a 2a. It is alegedly ex Navy. I does have the 6 cylinder engine so should have plenty of grunt.
The following morning I sorted out a fresh battery for it. The fuel pump is knacked and the tank is past it best, so I sorted a gravity fed supply to see if it would go. Oil was checked and seemed fine. Other fluids also present and so we tried to crack her up.
Bingo. Engine sound sweet as a nut.
Now back in UK (Boo hiss) I will source a new tilt, tank and fuel pump and then get her going properly and see how the rest of it functions. It apparently had a new chassis about 7 or 8 yrs ago with new brakes and UJs at the time and the bulk head is sound.
I will throw some silly questions into the tech bit to help me identify exactly what I have but am looking forward to using to gather wood and other stuff.
