Always start at silly money, you never know. Offer him £5k see what happens - but only do this face to face, not via Email or on the phone. You know how much you have to spend so its just a matter of how much you want it. If it was me, I would be happy to hand over £7500 for that little darling (as long as the history is good)

Ok and what are we looking at for the LPG coversion? 1500 quid?

Will aim to get it for 7 grand....might not even be still available when i get home....damn wish the time would go quicker.

Could get the wife to phone him up so he can email me...as you say it's not the best for making a deal.

I have my gorgeous 2.5 DSE going on sale this weekend. It was originally ordered and bought by Mark King of Level 42 for £43,330 in 97 and I have all the original papers.

It's black with cream, piped leather interior (no splits, all good) It also has some particularly nice alloys he had put on, which incorporate black enamel.

Its done 89k genuine miles and spent its life here on the Isle of Wight.

I'm looking for 6500, let me know if you're interested :)

:blabla:Not trying to be funy but as you stated in an earlier post you do very few miles as you are away a lot so why are you looking at LPG when you will not do enough miles to get back what you pay for the conversion both of mine are straight petrols as I have use of a work truck for during the week so the saving of runing on gas is not an issue for me , quite similar to your situation. But at the end of the day the decision is yours and what quality of vehicle is available at the time, I serched for 8 months for my P38 and spent 6 emailing the guy and finaly traveled from Cornwall to Scarborough, to pick her up.

Hi mate...thank actually I see your point, I suposed I was trying to justify the V8. I did a quick calculation...maths isnt great but I recon say 4000 miles per year would cost me £600 in gas where a straight petrol would cost 1000-1100 so it's half the cost. In the short term it wouldn't justify an LPG conversion but if it was fitted already it would be ok.Take two years to pay back at the least.
 
Was looking at the pics on the Holland Holland. Looks to me there is bubble rust near the badge. Annyone else see it...or does it look like water?

Still think 8 grand is a bit too much unless it has some spectacular service history. Two owners and ok millage.

Looking at the pics, the boot looks a bit tatty, I wonder it it's seen some heavy usage.

I am a bit paranoid when it comes down to buying cars, I had a lovely classic Saab 99 turbo (again a limited edition) and the engine blew on me. I ended up throwing alot of cash at it before giving up.
 
Right I have compiled a list of VOGUES that I recon I could get away with offering 6000 or under for. They all have nice interiors, low milage and are 4.6 V8s but no LPG. At 6000 grand it leaves me with some cash for any 'out of the blue' repairs, and if I chose I can have the LPG conversion at a later date as there is no crucial requirement.

If anyone has time please review the search result I posted and let me know any opinions.

HI i have owned 3 p38s over the last ten years .one v8 with lpg and two diesels.For me there is a lot less agro with the diesels thats why they normally cost more to buy.If you see a diesel advertised with FULL service history that should mean a service every 6000 miles not every ten thousand.As far as performance is concerned most people who say they are underpowered are v8 owners ,so they would say that. They are not meant to sports cars , i would decribe the performance as adequate.
 
x492 looks OK, that is a non standard screen in the front but looks like a reasonable job but the bezel appears to be dodgy - see shadow at top. Nice seats and a good colour my personal choice.
 
One of those vouges is for sale at Magnum Trading Co who are based in North London (Finchley) I looked at a couple of P38's there before I bought mine. They were good clean examples with perfect service history. They were just a little pricey, although I never got as far as making an offer so he could be prepaired to do a deal.

I emailed Magnum, the first one was sold, they have a nice looking green one. I asked[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]
  • What big jobs have been performed on the car over the last 3 or 4 years ?
  • Do all of the electrics work as they are supposed to?
  • Has the coolant levels been checked thoroughly for evidence of cracks in the block?

He replied
To answer your third question first.
The last owner has had the vehicle for four years, during which time he has had it maintained by 'xxxxxxxxx'.
He told me that he had had a head gasket changed there, and before I bought the vehicle I checked this out by phoning them- I asked them whether there was anything else untoward showing when they changed gasket, to which they replied that had there been, it would have been attended to.
Knowing their reputation, I accepted this.
The vehicle temp gauge stays just left of the middle - always a good sign.
The vehicle, judging by the loose invoices of the first owner, has been 'over serviced'.
Major works include, gearbox oil changes,pads, radiator etc - most itemised.
All the electrics work - they generally do on a late P38.

I got a reply from the guy selling the Silver DSE. I liked the look of it to be honest and its not far but it does have 107k miles on it. Now if this was a merc, bmw or audi Diesel I'd not bat an eyelid...What are the BMW Engines in the Range good for? Bolded the big bit...is this good or bad? I know it an expensive job

The Range Rover really is superb. It has Main dealer and Specialist Range Rover Garages service history. Recently it has has new injectors. The electrics all work perfectly in fact everything works. There are no leaks. There is no rust even the tail gate is absolutely fine.
 
i cant see why it should of had new injectors, if one fails (which is rare unless its number 4) you only replace the faulty one. probably confused with the glow plugs which are replaced by the set, a new set of injectors would cost a tidy sum of money.
 
With reference to a V8 I am looking at would it concern anyone that the Range Rover had had a new gear box? Does this soudngood or bad? There was 100k on the clock.

Also what is concidered ok millage for a Diesel and V8 2001/2002 year?

10000 a year is average, so anything under that is a plus. It's always nice to have new bits, so I wouldn't worry about a new box- that is a plus. Service history is the most important thing. Make sureit is fully stamped up with main dealer or specialist stamps.
 
having had first hand experience of main dealer servicing and problem solving i personally think this MAKE SURE IT HAS MAIN DEALER SERVICE HISTORY is a load of bo**ocks.i,ve had problems in the past which after changing literally every part under the bonnet and still leaving me with the same problem i,ve had to resort using an independant landrover garage and will continue to from now on(half the price and my problem solved)main dealer service history just looks good,and helps sell a car but does,nt at all mean your getting a better car than joe bloggs down the road whos serviced his own car.well thats my opinion:)
